How Mysticeti.wtf handles analytics, cookies, and simulator data.
Privacy
Mysticeti.wtf is an educational simulator. You can use the site without creating an account, logging in, or providing personal profile information.
Analytics
We use PostHog to understand whether the tutorial and simulator are useful, which protocol scenarios people explore, and where errors occur. Analytics events are limited to product usage signals such as page views, tutorial progress, simulator actions, scenario presets, sharing success or failure, and browser exceptions.
We do not use PostHog to identify individual visitors. We do not call PostHog's identify API, and we do not send names, email addresses, account IDs, or free-form transaction IDs as analytics properties. PostHog person profile processing is disabled for these events.
Cookies and local storage
PostHog is configured in cookieless mode. The analytics setup disables PostHog persistence, uses in-memory storage only, and does not set analytics cookies or persistent browser storage for visitor tracking. Because of this, Mysticeti.wtf does not show a cookie banner for analytics.
Session recording
Session recording is disabled. We also disable PostHog's automatic click/dead-click/rage-click capture, heatmaps, surveys, web experiments, performance capture, and feature-flag endpoint calls. The site only sends explicit events from the simulator and tutorial code.
URL handling
Scenario links can contain encoded simulator state in the URL. Analytics pageview tracking strips query strings before sending URL properties to PostHog, so encoded scenario data is not sent as part of pageview URLs.
